Mary and Sarah and You and Me: A Series of Tiny Spectacles offers a topsy-turvy chronicle of the lives of Stagecoach Mary Fields, and Mother Sarah Amadeus Dunne through their legendary lives in 19th century rural central Montana. These real life pioneer women, a black cowgirl from Tennessee and a white nun from Ohio, serve as co-conspirators, foils, and elusive historical tricksters to collaborators Naima Lowe and Emmy Bean. This project has taken on many forms, but has continually asked audience and authors alike to consider race, spectacle, power, ambition and destiny in the best way that we know how: With Puppets.
